Limescale build-up, in pipework, boilers and heat exchangers, is a common problem for business and industry. There has historically been only one way of addressing the problem – chemical water softening.
If the water supply to boilers is not conditioned, scale build-up increases fuel consumption and the boiler deteriorate rapidly through the external overheating of the plates and tubes.
Whenever water is heated or steam is generated, the minerals and chemicals contained in the water supply, cause operational problems by depositing as scale or by forming incondensable gases.
Even in pure water or condensate, chemical interactions occur between the boiler walls and the surface of the water, as it changes into steam causing oxygen attack in the boiling vessel.
If water is softened (ie treated chemically) sodium carbonate hydrolyses to produce free alkali that is aggressive to boilerplates and tubes.
The problems with Chemical Softening Method have been numerous and include corrosion and the cost of adding salt to the softening reservoir and the resulting effluent having higher concentrations of sodium.
Another problem has been that softening does not remove existing calcium carbonate build-up or completely stop calcium carbonate build-up. This has to be removed by acid or scraping – a further cost in terms of material, operator time and generator down time.

How It Works?
The UB’CAL – Hard water treatment system alters the structure of the hard water minerals making the “conditioned” water act like naturally soft rain water with its ability to dissolve existing scale back into the water.
The UB’CAL’s resonance frequencies progressively break down and remove any existing scale deposits and allow the boiler to regain its original thermal efficiency.
